Invisalign® Clear AlignersInvisalign is one of the most exciting technologies in cosmetic dentistry. Considering that a vast majority of young children, teens, and young adults need braces to correct bites, overcrowding, and other orthodontic issues, having an alternative to traditional braces is welcomed by millions of patients.
Serving Rockland County, NY
For years, here at Thiells Dentist - Michael Bleyzer, DDS, we have worked with countless patients using traditional wire braces. A few years ago, we started offering Invisalign, and our patients couldn’t be more excited at the results.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a plastic aligner system that cuts the orthodontic treatment time in half and saves our patients time with fewer appointments. With wire braces, we need to be continually changing rubber bands and adjusting the devices. Invisalign is a much simpler method for fixing teeth than traditional braces.
This relatively new technology is taking dentistry by storm, and with a couple of decades of research, it keeps improving on the original product. Millions of patients have benefited from Invisalign in recent years, and the manufacturer uses these experiences to make the product even more effective.
When you come in for your consultation, we will review your oral and overall health history. If you choose Invisalign as your treatment option, we will discuss the benefits and disadvantages thoroughly. We will examine your teeth and demonstrate how this method can improve your smile not only cosmetically but functionally.
One of the best things about Invisalign is that there is no need for gooey dental impressions. Everything is done with a particular digital scanner that takes detailed pictures of your jawbone, gums, and teeth. The data we get from this scan is more precise than any mold we can make. Patients will even be able to preview how their smile will look.
How Invisalign Works
The Invisalign aligners are custom made to fit perfectly in your mouth and are clear, compared to a mouthful of wires you need to wear for years with traditional braces. This will give you more confidence when you speak or smile.
Once your aligners are ready, your treatment will start. You must wear your aligners as much as possible during the day so that the treatment progresses as designed. Data from Invisalign shows that people who wear the aligners between 20 and 22 hours see the best results. The only time you should be taking the aligners off is to eat, brush your teeth, and floss.
Parents of teens who choose to wear Invisalign also find comfort in the blue compliance indicator which shows how long the kids are wearing them. Each set of aligners is used for one to two weeks and gets adjusted as your teeth shift. Appointments for progress checkups are usually every six to eight weeks. At this time, you will get a new set of aligners.
At first, Invisalign aligners can feel uncomfortable, which is natural. It will take a few days or weeks to get used to speaking while wearing them, but that will improve as time goes on. It’s essential to clean your aligners each night and use a soft-bristled toothbrush to wash them thoroughly, yet gently.
